*Product was received in exchange for an honest, unbiased review*
A little while ago, I was approached by Grimm’s Fine Foods, and asked if I would like to try their product, and review them. We buy their product all the time, so of course I said yes! It’s taken me awhile to get everything together for this review, but here it finally is! I was given quite a few things, but I only chose a few to write about.
I spoke with Jae Lee (Digital Marketing for Grimm’s Fine Foods) extensively about the product, and about their Gluten Free claims. I wanted to make sure that I felt comfortable recommending this product to the Celiac community, as I am first and foremost concerned for their safety. Jae Lee was able to answer my concerns, and really put my mind at ease regarding their processes. Here is an excerpt from her email:
- “All Grimm’s products have been lab tested in order to verify nutritional information and highlighted claims. Grimm’s products that contain Gluten Free claims have been substantiated by in house and third party lab testing. Grimm’s has multiple production plants, some of which are Gluten Free facilities and others that enforce allergen segregation control programs in order to support our claims.”
- “Grimm’s Smokies are made in a gluten-free facility. This facility in Saskatoon holds globally recognized BRC certification.”
- “Grimm’s Pizza Pepperoni Toppers are made in a gluten-free facility. This facility in Ontario holds globally recognized SQF certification.”
- “Grimm’s Mini Peps are made in a gluten free facility.”
- “Andouille Sausage, Spicy Italian Sausage and Corn Tortillas are made at alternate facilities where allergen segregation control programs are implemented.”
So, she was able to get me answers for each individual product that I was given. Fantastic! This is the kind of service that all companies who wish to be promoted in the Celiac community should have, and I feel very comfortable recommending Grimm’s products to my followers.
I am not a corn tortilla fan. I just have to say that up front. So when I opened our package from Grimm’s, I was holding this bag of corn tortillas, and trying to figure out what I wanted to do with them. I knew that I wouldn’t be using them as a wrap, because the flavour of the corn is far too strong for me. Then I got an idea. What if I cut them up, deep fried them, and then used them as nacho chips? What a fab idea! They were absolutely perfect with some homemade salsa. They had such a fresh flavour compared to what you get when you buy the bags of pre-made ones at the stores. These were light, and crunchy, and I couldn’t make them fast enough!
My son is absolutely in love with pepperoni everything. If he could have pepperoni for breakfast every day, he would be happy. He has pepperettes with cheese sticks in his lunches, and would choose pepperoni pizza for dinner each night if I gave him the opportunity. So these Dry Pepperoni Pizza Toppers were perfect for him. I simply toasted some gluten free bread, spread the pieces with some pizza sauce, added pepperoni, covered in mozza, and then melted them in the microwave. I topped each slice with another piece of pepperoni, and my little guy was absolutely thrilled. What an awesome breakfast, right? These pepperoni slices are super tasty, with just the right amount of spice. What we like about them the most is how they aren’t overly greasy. Fabulous!
JAMBALAYA!! Yes, you heard me right…Jambalaya. I love it, my son loves it, and my hubby loves it (until I add the shrimp, anyway). As soon as I saw the package of Andouille sausage, I knew exactly what I was making! Grimm’s makes fantastic sausages, and they certainly don’t disappoint with this one. The Andouille has that perfect Cajun flavour that lends itself so well to Jambalaya. When you add some fresh cooked shrimp into the mix, the flavours explode. If you haven’t given these sausages a try, you certainly need to! Want the recipe for Jambalaya? Click here to check it out! If you don’t like shrimp (like my hubby), you can easily leave it out and up the chicken, or even add a different kind of fish!
I also chose to use the Original Smokies in a recipe, at the request of my son. He absolutely LOVES the Grimm’s Jalapeño Cheddar Smokies, and will just eat them on a fork, while dipping in mustard. He loves his spice! This time, I wanted to do something a little more substantial with the smokies, to show how versatile they really can be. So I created what I called “Breakfast for Dinner”, and it did not disappoint! The flavour in those smokies really made the dish. They’re juicy, but not greasy, which isn’t always an easy feat for a smokie. Check out my recipe here!
I have to say that I am absolutely thrilled with Grimm’s Fine Foods, and I will continue to be a loyal customer. Thank you to Jae Lee for suggesting the partnership, and I hope to work with Grimm’s Fine Foods again in the future!
